EST. 1988

Founded by Loretta Rosenmayer as Trench-It, Inc. in 1988, INTREN began as a small trenching company built on Loretta’s business dream and a passion foTrech-it Logor community.

When a close female friend offered Loretta a $15,000 loan to help launch her business and another financed a truck, Trench-It Inc. was born. Since, thanks in part to their support and Loretta’s unwavering spirit, the company has grown from 4 to more than 1,000 passionate professionals, proud and strong.

In 2009, this tremendous growth and expansion caused Trench-It to outgrow its name, with trenching having become just 6% of the business. Inspired to combine the company’s core value of integrity the Trench-IT name, INTREN was formed. Today INTREN serves some of the country’s foremost utilities, contractors and municipalities as a premier provider of innovative design, construction and management solutions.

Opening the Doors of Opportunity

Among her earliest mentors, Loretta had the good fortune of forming a relationship with ComEd, an Exelon Company, one of the nation’s largest electric utilities. Today, she credits ComEd with encouraging her growth and expansion into new divisions, starting with underground electrical work.

“INTREN is the company that ComEd built,” Loretta says. “They mentored me, they chastised me, and they challenged me. They raised the bar high, and I was determined to rise even higher.”

True to this word, in 2003, Loretta started the company’s overhead electrical department and, in 2005, she saw the opportunity to offer gas services that would set INTREN apart and bring great value to clients.

Becoming a Certified Women's Enterprise

Four years into their working relationship, ComEd encouraged Loretta to certify Trench-It as an official Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE). In 1993, she received her initial certification through the Women’s Business Development Center, and INTREN has renewed it through them every year since.

Succeeding Through Stewardship

Loretta built INTREN on the core values of safety, integrity, customer focus and employee empowerment. Yet stewardship is the cornerstone on which the company has thrived for more than 30 years.

To Loretta, and all the INTREN team, stewardship is not just a way of doing business; it is a way of life. By incorporating this approach into the very fabric of INTREN’s culture, the company has succeeded in earning the respect and support of peers, customers and the communities they serve. Loretta has established a culture where the bold truth is always present, and we care for others’ priorities as if they were our own.
