History of INTREN and WBE

Certified Women Owned BusinessA few years after working with ComEd, a suggestion came to Loretta that she become certified as a Women’ Business Enterprise (WBE). Being that Trench-It was a 100% woman-owned business, Loretta applied for her initial certification through the Women’s Business Development Center (WBDC) in 1993 and has renewed her certification every year since.

Commitment to 2nd Tier Diversity Suppliers

With diversity inclusion and employee empowerment as top company values, we have found a meaningful way to help change lives and assist fellow Minority/Women Business Enterprises (M/WBE) succeed in the construction industry and beyond with guidance through our Diversity Program. At INTREN, we are able to embrace and add value to fellow M/WBE organizations by educating them on M/WBE guidelines and on diverse work types which will deliver more contractor options in the future. More information and resources for women business owners can be found at http://www.expertise.com/small-business/resources-for-women-owned-businesses.

As a result of our diversity mentoring program, INTREN to date has internally vetted 98 industry-related vendors or contractors; of those, 57 have been engaged as subcontractors. For INTREN, these successes signify a promising future where diversity inclusion is a touchstone of the construction industry and where helping fellow companies succeed furthers INTREN’s diversity mission.
