Case Study

Northwestern Emergency Access Improvements

Evanston, IL

  • Site, electrical and lighting improvements
  • Pole and fixture replacement
  • Installation of power and communication handholes, ER call stations, security camera equipment, traffic signal loop detectors and handholes, and concrete light pole bases
  • Conduit and wire for communication and power purposes

 Project Challenges:

  • Working around a fully functioning college campus and parking lot with heavy pedestrian and vehicle traffic

Creative Solutions:

  • Fully closed off only small areas of the site at a time to minimize the disturbance to the surrounding pedestrian and vehicle traffic
Through careful coordination, the need for directional boring was eliminated, allowing for open trenching

  • Eliminating directional boring and allowing for open trenching provided substantial cost savings
  • Improvements to campus provided for increased accessibility and safety
